Make your solar lights shine
Solar lights depend on good charging — and a few simple habits make a big difference to how bright they are and how long they last. Here's how to get the best from yours.
Place them in full sunlight
The single most important tip: position the solar panel where it gets the most direct sunlight during the day — away from shade from walls, trees, or roofs. More sun = a fuller charge = brighter, longer light.
Angle the panel towards the sun
If the panel angle is adjustable, tilt it to catch the most sunlight through the day. Even a small improvement in angle can noticeably boost charging.
Keep the solar panel clean
Dust, bird droppings, and grime block sunlight and reduce charging — a real issue in dusty Indian conditions. Wipe the panel clean regularly with a damp cloth for the best charge.
Charge fully before first use
When new, let the light charge fully in sunlight (often a full day or two, sometimes with the switch off) before first use. This helps the battery reach its best performance.
Use the right brightness mode
If your light has modes, a lower or motion-activated mode lasts much longer on a charge. Use high brightness only where you really need it.
Turn off during long cloudy spells if needed
During extended monsoon cloud, charging drops. Some lights have a switch — turning them off for a day lets the battery build up charge for when you need it.
Keep lights away from other light sources
The dusk sensor turns lights on in darkness. If placed near a streetlight or porch light, the sensor may not trigger properly. Position them away from other lights.
Look after the battery
Batteries lose capacity over years. If a light dims permanently, a replacement rechargeable battery (where replaceable) can bring it back to life — cheaper and greener than a new light.
